On RHD cars, removing the fan motor-to-heater duct is necessary in order to access the relay box.
The problem is that this part often gets pretty stiff and cardboard like with age, making it tricky to remove.
Disconnect wires. Yellow/green is positive. Black earth. There is
also a ground cable to disconnect (fig1). Mark where wire sockets to
reconnect properly otherwise your fan motor blow the wrong way.
Three 9mm bolts hold the motor. To access the one located at the
bottom it is necessary to disconnect the cruise control bellows hose
(fig2)
Once the three bolts are released you can carefully pull out the motor and its impeller. There is just enough room to do so.
The workshop manual adds that the screen washer bottle should be removed, but it didn't prove necessary in my case.
Disconnect earth wire (see below fig 4)
There should be also a strap to remove, but on my car it has cracked, I'll have to repair
Now you can pull out the air duct (fig 5 and 6)
This is how it looks when both the air duct and the fan motor box have been removed.
You get full access to the relay box (on a RH car) shown here with the regulator unmounted (hanging bottom right of picture).
