Header Tank Cleaning and Repainting
see also : Header Tank parts description; Header Tank removing
To remove HT, refer to the link above.
1 - Removing the brass plate
- there are five 2BA nuts to remove (pic 1)
sometimes they need to be soaked with penetrating oil. Do gently
because they are supposed to beak easily.
- every nut comes with a washer. The two nuts retaining the warning plate are longer and their washers are thick (pic 2 - 3)
2
- Removing the old gasket
- the old gasket can be totally burnt and hard as stone. Scrapping
it totally takes a few hours.
- use a cutter, abrasive paper and try to avoid dropping dust
inside the tank (pic 4 and next)
3 - Removing the steam valve
- the steam valve is held in place by the brass plate only. It may
be stuck.
- using adjustable pliers, pull out the steam valve (pic
5)
- you may need to prepare its extraction with penetrating oil (in
my case it was very easy to remove)
4 - Removing the remaining hoses
- there is one short hose held by a jubilee clip to remove
- and the drain pipe which needs to be cut away because too dry (pic 6)
