I have a 1976 Silver Shadow and the manual says to use Dextron.
My local autmotive shop only carries Dexron IV, full synthetic.
The back of the bottle says it is recommended for use in applications requiring Dexron II or Dexron III. Is using this new synthetic type ok?
Answer :
All Dexron specifications as the numbers progress are completely backward compatible with all earlier specifications.
The latest spec is VI, which came directly after III (both IV and V were skipped).
You can still find tons of ATF made to the Dexron-III spec, it's just that GM no longer officially licenses anything under that spec.
