Rully, a Burgundy, is the exceptional case of a wine which is available as both a red or as white wine. The white wines are cousins of the renowned Montrachets and Meursaults, which are grown in vineyards that can be seen in the distance just a few miles away. Rully rouge ranks alongside the Mercurey reds, its direct neighbours, and the Givrys, which live up to their Côte Chalonnaise reputation .
This is because the appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) Rully has been granted to this area of Burgundy, which is located between the Côte de Beaune in the north and the Mâconnais in the south, an area referred to as the Côte Chalonnaise, after Chalon-sur-Saône, the large local town.te chalonnaise.
1,000 years of tradition and the European landscape
Rully dominates the Saône plain, an extensive historical transport corridor that leads from the north to the south of France. Perched atop heights averaging 220 metres (about 720 feet), the hillsides face to the east and on clear days you can see the magnificent Alpine range towering above the black wall of the Juras; the Alps are however 200 kilometres (about 125 miles) away.
Rully draws its breath from the wide expanses and large valleys! Since antiquity its wines have been tied to this land, on which wine has ceaselessly been produced and from which it has been sent to every restaurant in Europe, either via the Saône, or by land.
